Kronendal Music Academy's annual Jazz Band Fundraiser has become a must see in Cape Town.  Their theme this year is "30 Years of Democracy" and features short filmed quotes from some of the composers whose music they will be playing for you.

Every year these talented young musicians invite their heroes to guest alongside them on stage, and this year we are super excited to welcome Justin Bellairs, Ramon Alexander and Nomadic Orchestra!

Justin is a lecturer in Jazz Sax and woodwinds at UCT and has earned himself the reputation as a must-have sax player for performances and ensembles. He has recorded-and-shared the stage with some of South Africa’s most distinguished musicians, including Feya Faku, Nduduzo Makhathini, Kyle Shepherd and Bokani Dyer. In 2014. Justin became one of the youngest South African musicians to perform at the world-renowned Carnegie Hall.

The motley crew of music nerds, fondly referred to as “The Nomads,” hail from the South African College of Music (UCT) in Cape Town and all have a deep passion for music performance and composition. The music keeps dance and groove at the centre of its inspiration and borrows from many different styles. Hip hop, afrobeat, ghoema, samba, ska, klezmer and various other sounds are blended into one cohesive, high-energy performance.

Cape-based Ramon Alexander is a jazz musician who is one of the few scholars of the South African ghoema subgenre. He has performed with a variety of artists such as Robbie Jansen, Errol Dyers, Ibrahim Khalil Shihab, McCoy Mrubata, Allou April, Frank Paco’s Art Ensemble and The Cape Jazz Band, led by veteran drummer Jack Momple. And, he is just a really, really nice guy... and a qualified winemaker!

The KMA Jazz Band is raising funds for their second tour to Germany in June 2024 and will feature some of your most beloved South African Jazz. Hot on the heels of International Jazz Day and j u s t before the Cape Town Bigband Festival, The KMA Jazz Band promises to fill your evening with fun - and some interesting sounds you have never heard before!

Drinks and snacks will be on sale and bring some cash along to buy CD's and merch from the guest artists.

See you there!
